Overview of IAS 2015 Exam Pattern

CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test), is not doubt, one of the most toughest exam but it is worth a try. After all, India Administrative Services (IAS) is a prestigious services, for which almost 9 to 10 lakh aspirants apply, every year. Out of these, only hand full are selected. Recruitment through IAS 2015, will be a three- step procedure in which aspirant will have to qualify Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Personality Test/ Interview.

Aspirants, you are advised to start the preparing for exam, asap. Not because, it is too tough, but because of its huge syllabus that cannot be covered in short span of time. With complete determination and hard work you can crack the exam for which you need to go through the exam patter and syllabus.

IAS exam can be classified into two: Prelims and Main, which again will be sub-categorized into many. Prelims exam comprises of 2 Paper of 200 marks, each. Paper-1 will evaluate you, on your General Aptitude, Analytical Skills and Reasoning Ability. Whereas, Paper-2 will judge candidate’s Language skills, for Hindi or English (whichever Language you will opt for). You must qualify Prelims in order to write Main, this is the pre-defined minimum eligibility criteria for it.

IAS 2015 Main Exam Pattern is very different from that of Prelims. It will check you knowledge for almost everything. Literally Everything!!...Main, can again be  classified as Paper-A and Paper-B. Paper-A is a qualifying exam. You just need to pass it, marks of it will not be added while evaluating you performance for merit. It will be of 300 marks and you will write it in any one of the Indian Language, as under 8th Schedule of Constitution.

IAS 2015 exam pattern of Paper-B (Main) is very vivid. You will have to write 9 exams, 2 for Optional Subjects and 7 General Paper, of 1750 marks, in all. It will also contain one paper, of English (of 300 marks), which will again be a qualifying exam and marks of it will not be considered during preparation of merit list. Rest all the exam, scores of which will be considered for merit, are as below:

Paper-1 will be of Essay Writing for 250
Paper-2 for General Studies-I (History and Geography of the World and Society, Indian Heritage and Culture) for 250 marks
Paper-3 for General Studies-II (Polity, Governance, Social Justice and International relations, Constitution,) for 250 marks
Paper-4 for General Studies-III (Economic Development, Bio‐diversity, Environment, Technology, Security and Disaster Management) for 250 marks
Paper-5 for General Studies-IV (Ethics, Aptitude and Integrity) for 250marks
Paper-6 Optional Subject (1st Paper) for 250 marks
Paper-7 Optional Subject (2nd Paper) for 250 marks

Qualified candidates will be called for Personal Interview round, which will be of 275 marks. Hence, while preparing merit, your score will be calculated out of 2025 marks. 

To get appointed on the most elite post of the Indian Administrative Services, candidate must ranked high in the merit list.
